Who is Khalil Gibran खलील जिब्रान का परिचय
आज 6 जनवरी है और यह एक विश्वविख्यात लेखक का जन्मदिन है। आखिर लेबनान में जन्मे प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी लेखक और कवि खलील जिब्रान के बारे में कौन नहीं जानता? अपनी रचनाओं से जीवन के प्रत्येक क्षेत्र पर प्रकाश डालने वाले इस महान लेखक की लगभग सभी रचनाएँ बहुत प्रसिद्ध रही हैं जिनका दुनिया भर की कई भाषाओँ में अनुवाद हुआ है। मैडमैन, ब्रोकन विंग्स और फोररनर इनकी मुख्य रचनाएँ हैं जिन्होंने इन्हें एक सुकुमार कवि और दार्शनिक लेखक के रूप में यश दिलाया।
लेकिन इनकी सभी कृतियों में सबसे विख्यात है ‘द प्रोफेट’ जो उनकी कल्पना शक्ति का बेजोड़ प्रतीक है। कविताओं के रूप में लिखी गयी यह पुस्तक अपने आप में एक मास्टरपीस है जिसे पढ़ते समय पाठक एक अलग ही संसार में खो जाता है। जिब्रान असाधारण काव्य प्रतिभा के धनी थे, पर कुछ अंतर्मुखी स्वभाव के थे। उनमे जीवन के प्रति निराशा की झलक भी समय-समय पर दिखायी दे जाती थी, पर शायद उनके इसी स्वभाव के कारण ही इन उत्तम रचनाओं का निर्माण संभव हो पाया था।
6 जनवरी 1883 को लेबनान के ‘बथरी’ नगर में एक संपन्न परिवार में पैदा हुए गिब्रान, सन 1912 में, 12 वर्ष की आयु में ही माता-पिता के साथ अमेरिका के न्यूयॉर्क में स्थायी रूप से बस गये थे और फिर अपना बाकी का जीवन उन्होंने वहीँ पर बिताया। जीवन के अंतिम दिनों में जिब्रान अत्यधिक शराब पीने के कारण सिरोसिस और क्षय रोग से ग्रस्त हो गये थे। इनकी मृत्यु 10 अप्रैल 1931 को 48 वर्ष की आयु में न्यूयार्क शहर में ही हुई थी।
इनकी मृत्यु के पश्चात भी हजारों लोग इनके दर्शनों को आते रहे थे। बाद में इन्हें इनकी जन्मभूमि लेबनान के गिरजाघर में दफना दिया गया था। जिब्रान की रचनाएँ, शेक्सपियर और लाओ जू की कृतियों के पश्चात इतिहास की सबसे अधिक बिकने वाली रचनाएँ हैं, इसी से पता चलता है कि जिब्रान कितने बड़े लेखक थे। प्रस्तुत सूक्तियाँ इनकी कई रचनाओं से ली गयी हैं जिनमे ‘द प्रोफेट’ प्रमुख है –
